L’hiver (The Winter)

They have warned us about you,
That you are coming for all of us.

Constant and patient
you have been waiting since
the first dawn

You’ve seen it all,
and you will see it all
fade into the darkness

Of course we all tried to forget you
we, children of the sun
have convinced ourselves
that we are invincible

After all -

Snow in Japanese,
also meant happiness

So we spent our days
tucked in the safe embrace
of work, of books, of old records
of Wi-fi and all the stupid wonders of the Internet
of The Walking Dead
and all the
bloody Game of Thrones episodes
that kept warning us -

Winter is Coming

A blizzard in New York
the first Snowfall in Kuwait
Historic,  always historic nowadays
In Paris, they tried to figure out what to do
about the Arctic
that is melting faster than butter
oblivious, we kept ignoring the signs

And now it is too late.
Just as I was too late.

Like the rest of us
I have convinced myself  that we were invincible
that we would grow old together,
with books, with wi-fi, with old records

Hair white as snow,
Eyes blue as the sky
For a moment I was his
and he was mine
But his fragile beating heart had to say goodbye
for now,

I must remember -

Snow in Japanese,
also meant happiness.
